Mets Clobber D-backs
On Friday the Mets scored only seven runs, which is a lot, but they had eight, count 'em, eight extra base hits. Jose Reyes and David Wright each fell one hit shy of the cycle. Reyes led off the game with a single, then he doubled in the 2nd, and singled in the sixth. Now here's were it gets interesting, in the eight he hit a deep fly ball to center, it bounced off the wall, and while the Mets had a 5 run leaad Reyes figured he could try for the inside-the-park home run, but he was thrown out at the plate.
Wright on the other hand hit a homer in the sixth to give the Mets the 5 run lead, singled in the 1st, and doubled in the 4th. On his last at bat he struck out swinging. While we're talking about Wright's day we should talk about the amazing play he made in the 2nd in foul territory. There was two men on base, 2 outs, and 2 runs already home in the inning. Orlando Hudson popped up to foul territory and David Wright made an amazing over-the-shoulder catch. This gave me memories about the catch he made in 2005. Watch: Yesterday - 2005. Now we all know the one in 2005 was better, but do you see a resemblance???
Ryan Church hit a solo shot in the the 4th on a deep fly ball to right. That homer extended the Mets lead to three.
Alou returned to the Mets, went 1-4, with a questionable rbi. The ball scooted by Hudson, was recorded as a hit, but it deffiently should've have been a error. That ball could've created an inning ending double play , but instead costed the D-backs 2 runs.
John Maine had a good ouing allowing only two runs in six innings on six hits, while striking out six. Wow, lots on sixes. He walked only two. He recorded his 3rd win of the season and only his 1st on the road.
