Mets Cruise Their Way Through Mother's Day

First and foremost I would like to say Happy Mother's Day to all you Mothers out there. Today the Mets gave their Mom's a special treat by winning the afternoon game against the Reds. Beltran gave his mom a really special treat as he went 2-5 with a homer, 3 rbis, and 2 runs. Next comes the ironic part, isn't it ironic that Ryan Church hits a homer on a Sunday??? Oliver Perez went five strong innings and one not so strong. His not so strong one was the 6th when he allowed 3 runs on 2 hits and a couple of walks. His full line was: 6 IP, 3 earned runs, 8 strikeouts, 4 walks, and 3 hits. He also stole a base along with Jose Reyes who stole two. The best signs of the game: every starter except Brian Schiender got a hit; Reyes  going 3-5, 2 runs, and stole two bases, and Beltran's amazing game. Bad news: Luis Castillo straing his hammy and most likely won't play Monday. The Mets didn't gain any ground on the Marlins but soon they have a 3-game series and the Mets are now tied with the Phils in 2nd place. The Mets play the Nats next tomorrow at 7:10. Happy Mother's Day!

(P.S. There was a big confusing in the 9th when the Reds put out the wrong batter and batted in the wrong order. There was one delay that took like seven minutes, then after David Ross sinngled in his 2nd straight at-bat after taking Corey Patterson's place and getting out for him the was another 5 minute delay about the same thing... All very confusing????) To get a better understanding of the game and what happened, go here: http://mlb.mlb.com/media/video.jsp?mid=200805112683080 !!!

Mets Split Day-Night Doubleheader

Today the Mets had a doubleheader because of the rainout yesterday.

1st game- in the 1st game the mets scored 12 runs for the second straight game. Those twelve runs propeled the Mets to their 18th win and Santana's 4th. The best news though, was probably Carlos Beltran driving in 5 whie going 2-3. Santana wasn't his strongest but he struck out five oh 10 hits, 3 runs, and 1 walk. Other big news: in the 7th inning Delgado and Schiender went back to back off of Lincoln. With his homer Delgado went 3-4 and Wright went 2-3 with 3 runs. The 2nd game was another story though.

2nd game- The Mets couldn't hit anything against Arroyo. Pelfrey went 6 strong getting the lose on only two runs. I'm not so mad about the lost but the way the Mets played in the 8th and 9th. In those two innings Sanchez allowed two earned runs in the 8th and in the 9th Wagner allowed 3 unearned runs which keeps his era at 0.00. Here's what I think, the Mets 'pen is tired already. The Mets lead the Majors in releif apperances per game with 3.6 apperances. But if the Mets had kept the lead for the Reds down to 1 the Mets could've won that game. To me it's not so much the lost but the way we give up runs late in the game.

Tommorw the Mets play the Reds at 1:10 ET and the lool to win the rubber game with Perez on the mound.

Another Rainy Day at Shea

Today the Mets vs. Reds opener got rained out. It is rescheduled for tomorrow at 7:30. The Mets alreay have a game tomorrow at 1:10. But just like today, rain is in the forecast and a there's a possible flood watch.

The Maine Event!

Today the Mets clobbered the Dodgers. To make it is easier I'm going to make a list and tell you what each player did.

Jose Reyes- 0-3, but he did have a run and showed some plate discipline by drawing two walks.

Luis Castillo- 2-4, double, one run, two RBIs, and a walk

David Wright- 1-5, and he broke his 0-11 streak in the series with a 2-run 2-out double in the 5th.

Carlos Beltran- 1-5, with a run

Ryan Church- 3-4, solo home run, 1 RBIs, 3 runs

Angel Pagan- 1-2, 1 RBI, 1 run, 1 sb, Pagan had an amazin' catch that forced him to leave the ballgame, he ran into foul territory and flipped over the wall. Endy Chavez replaced him.

Endy Chavez- 0-3, but he also had two nice defensive plays.

Marlon Anderson- 2-5, double, 1 RBI, 2 runs, and did a nice job at 1st in Delgado's place.

Raul Casanova- 2-4, double, 2 RBIs, 2 runs, and a walk.

Now, bababababa, for the Maine event....

John Maine- Maine went 1-4, with a clutch 2 rbi bloop single to center with 2-outs. He also scored a run. He threw 8 1/3 1 run innings, striking out 4, and allowing only 2 walks and 4 hits. He was replaced after allowing the lone run in the 9th. Duaner Sanchez replaced him.

Duaner Sanchez- 2/3 innings of quick relief needing only 7 pitches to get out Delwyn Young and James Looney.

So...those stats prtty much say it all as the Mets step closer to regaining the divison lead. After their 12-1 victory the Mets return to Shea to face the Reds.

Mets vs. Dodgers Preview

After giving the D-Backs their first series lose since being swept in a two game series to start the year against the Reds, the Mets look to win their second straight series against the red hot Dodgers. After losing their 1st game in 9 days the Dodgers look to win this series at Dodger Stadium.

Game Times:

Game 1- 10:10 ET

Game 2- 10:10 ET

Game 3- 3:10 ET

PItching Matchups:

Game 1- The Mets send to the mound young lefty, Oliver Perez. After getting roughed up in his last outing Perez looks to rebound against the red hot Dodgers. He's going to face off against not-so-sot Chad Billingsly. Chad is 1-4 with a 5.20 era. The Mets get lucky there after facing the hardest pitchers in the D-Backs lineup.

Game 2- Nelson Figueroa squares off against Hiroki Kuroda. Figueroa, whose spot in the lineup was skipped because of a rainout threw 3 1/3 inning of relief allowing only one run after Perez was roughed up in his outing against the Pirates. Los Angeles will send to the mound  Hiroki Kuroda. Kuroda is 1-2 with a 3.82 era. He had a good start against the Marlins a couple days ago, he allowed three runs, five hits, no walks, four strikeouts, and was rewarded with a no decision.

Game 3- In the final game  of this series it'll be John Maine up against hard throwing righty Brad Penny. Maine is coming of his first road win. He threw six innings allowing only two runs, but he got out of two bases loaded jams. He wasn't as sharp as normal, but passable, we look for a better outing today against Penny. Penny, who is 5-2 with a 3.19 era, also came of a rough outing, but he too got the win. He tossed five innnings allowing three runs. The run total's not high but the amount of innings pitched is not good.

Injuries:

The Mets got Moises Alou and Brian Schnieder back this weekend and Martinez started throwing. Good new for the Mets.

Blog

First i would like to say.... MAN THESE BLOGS ARE HARD TO KEEP UP WITH. With school and everything it's impossible to keep up. But, LET'S GO METS!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Mets Clobber D-backs

On Friday the Mets scored only seven runs, which is a lot, but they had eight, count 'em, eight extra base hits. Jose Reyes and David Wright each fell one hit shy of the cycle. Reyes led off the game with a single, then he doubled in the 2nd, and singled in the sixth. Now here's were it gets interesting, in the eight he hit a deep fly ball to center, it bounced off the wall, and while the Mets had a 5 run leaad Reyes figured he could try for the inside-the-park home run, but he was thrown out at the plate.

Wright on the other hand hit a homer in the sixth to give the Mets the 5 run lead,  singled in the 1st, and doubled in the 4th. On his last at bat he struck out swinging. While we're talking about Wright's day we should talk about the amazing play he made in the 2nd in foul territory. There was two men on base, 2 outs, and 2 runs already home in the inning. Orlando Hudson popped up to foul territory and David Wright made an amazing  over-the-shoulder catch. This gave me memories about the catch he made in 2005. Watch: Yesterday - 2005. Now we all know the one in 2005 was better, but do you see a resemblance???

Ryan Church hit a solo shot in the the 4th on a deep fly ball to right. That homer extended the Mets lead to three.

Alou returned to the Mets, went 1-4, with a questionable rbi. The ball scooted by Hudson, was recorded as a hit, but it deffiently should've have been a error. That ball could've created an inning ending double play , but instead costed the D-backs 2 runs.

John Maine had a good ouing allowing only two runs in six innings on six hits, while striking out six. Wow, lots on sixes. He walked only two. He recorded his 3rd win of the season and only his 1st on the road.

Mets vs. Diamondbacks Preview

This weekend the Mets will square off against the D-backs in a wekkend series at Chase Field.

Game Times:

Game 1- Friday 9:40 ET

Game 2- Saturday 3:45 ET

Game 3- Sunday 4:10 ET

Pitching Matchups:

Game 1- Miane vs. Owings. Micah Owings is a threat with the bat and his arm. He has a 4-1 record with a 3.48 era. Is that the big story or is it his .421 batting avg. John Maine will have to control him and his red hot D-back teammates. John Maine come in to the game with a 2-2 record and a 3.58 era. Both his loses came in away games and he has a 5.40 era in games played away from Shea.

Game 2- Pelfrey vs. Webb. Webb comes in having a 6-0 record and a 1.98 era. Well...that pretty much says it all. Pelfrey on the other hand has a 2-1 record and a 4.43 era. In his last two starts he hasn't been as hot since throwing 7 shutout innings vs. the Nats.

Game 3- Santana vs. Haren. The two newest additions of their respected ballclubs square off in a battle of the New. Santana has a 3-2 record and a 3.12 era. He also has a bat hitting 3 doubles and an impressive .267 Batting avg. Haren has been all the D-backs expected and some. Recording a 4-1 record and a 3.13 era.

Overall Pitching Matchup:

Just the Mets luck they get the D-backs three best pitchers. Owings, Webb, and Haren are combined for a 14-1 record with a 2.81 era. Just our luck!

Injurues;

The Mets most likely will get Alou back! Yeahhhhhhhh! And Schiender is questionable???

Mets had a dissapointing game Wednesday

Sorry i know it's kind of late but i was away for a bit.

On Wednseday the Mets lost 13-1. Perez was roughed up a bit, but Figueroa got some releif time and allowed 1 run in 3 1/3 innings. That about all i can say about this bad day a Shea
